BLUE Excelerator 2022: "Advanced Topics" in Pilots and Prototyping in BlueTech & the Blue Economy

BLUE Excelerator Core Values and Goals

 Our "Why"?


* BlueTech Startups need support in soft skills for engaging business networks in the Blue Economy.


* BlueTech startups need experienced help in engineering the hardware and software for building a prototype.


*BlueTech Startups need help planning and executing a safe and productive pilot.

 
 

Our Four Goals!


1. This specialized "excelerator" will facilitate BlueTech Startups to accelerate with "excellence." 


2. To identify potential pilot and/or prototype locations, partners, and sponsors.


3. To allow BlueTech Startups to widen their professional networks and help connect project details.


4. To bring together disparate / isolated BlueTech Startups and create a tight knit Cohort for now and for their future.

  • The BLUE Excelerator is a specialized Advanced Topics virtual accelerator (due to the pandemic) for BlueTech and Blue Economy companies that have already completed an early-stage business development program or have a business plan that has been vetted through another source such as a university or government business development agency. 


  • While there are many programs that do a fabulous job of advancing a startups' business model, the startups in the water or marine hardware/software space - often face unique challenges for their next steps.  It is from this need that the BLUE Excelerator for advanced topics was launched in 2020. This year we have expanded from 8 to 12 weeks adding a four-week deep dive on finance. 


  • The program will run from March through May with a virtual Capstone project Demo Day taking place in early June 2022 in conjunction with the Blue Institute's annual celebrations of World Oceans Day. Startups will work towards a virtual Capstone project on the design, development, and deployment of their product or services.  Startups have a weekly program commitment in addition to the meetings with mentors.


  • Our goal is to support the process, introduce the startups to "in the field" practitioners, learn from guest speakers, and practice the communication skills needed to execute on the plan. Mentors are asked to meet at a minimum of 8 times with their startups over the 12 - week program. The number of companies that will be accepted into the BLUE Excelerator will be based in part on our ability to match them with technical mentors needed to support their pilots and/or prototype projects.
