"We need a global approach to this from all sides. We need to educate people, we need the scientists to create new technologies, we need the engineers to create the networks, we need every human being to be aware of how precious water is and save it. Everybody has to be involved in a very firm and assertive way." - Isabel Allende, Chilean-American writer

Presented by Highland Street Foundation and produced by the Boch Center, ArtWeek has become an annual award-winning innovative festival featuring hundreds of unique and creative experiences that are hands-on, interactive or offer behind-the-scenes access to artists or the creative process. Launched in 2013 and produced by the Boch Center as part of a strategy to strengthen its role in both the community and the creative economy beyond just its downtown historic theaters, ArtWeek’s growth has been explosive.
In May 2017, the Boch Center announced ArtWeek was expanding statewide and recently launched a new logo, website address (ArtWeekMA.org), and social media channels—check us out @ArtWeekMA. We also announced that the Mass Cultural Council and Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism have become our new Lead Champions. Working with these two statewide partners will allow for the development of regional hubs with an expanding showcase of the Commonwealth’s creative economy. CANDACE PERRY
Candace Perry believes we can change the world, one play at a time. She has written four full length plays and over forty short plays which have been produced in Wellfleet, New Bedford, Provincetown and Boston, MA; New Orleans, LA; Urbana and Normal, IL; Bozeman, MT; Westchester and Buffalo, NY; and Dublin, Ireland. Her full length play, MERIDIAN SUMMER, will have a workshop reading at the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater on May 5. Her short stories have been published in Ms. Magazine, The Sun, Cape Cod Review, Cape Cod Women, Roanoke Review, and Summer Home Review. Her most recent production, HEART STOPPERS, included a collection of her short plays and short stories which were performed at the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater in October of 2018. She has taught courses in writing the short play and writing for social change at a number of venues on the Cape.
Candace is an avid swimmer, having completed the Provincetown Swim for Life three times. Avid, but not very fast. She also enjoys boogie boarding and paddle boarding and remembers the thrill of surfing. In her youth, she was a lifeguard and accomplished water skier. Water sports led her to appreciate oceans, bays, ponds and bayous and to understand how precious they are. In Wellfleet, where she lives full time, she enjoys harvesting fresh oysters from the harbor, catching sunset on the bay side and sunrise on the ocean side. Judith Underwood
Judith Underwood founded the Blue Institute in 2016 with the mission of creating a cross-disciplinary center for education and research on water. This vision stems from her work with scientists and engineers, experience teaching at all levels, always living near fresh or salt water, and her love of poetry and playwriting. In addition to being an environmentalist, Judith has been writing poetry for four decades, and playwriting for three. Her poetry has been performed, and on display at The Distillery in South Boston where she had a writing studio (prior to children :-). Her poetry is often incorporated in her plays - her full-length and short plays have been performed at the UMass Boston Nantucket Summer Theatre Program, the Provincetown Theatre, Cape Cod Community College, and the Tennessee Williams Theatre Festival. Haikus are a favorite poem style - particularly when writing about nature. Judith has two awesome kids at Monomoy High School, and a sweet old rescue dog named Willow. Judith proudly serves her community of Harwich as a Water Commissioner.

KATHLEEN TEAHAN
Kathleen Teahan is a retired teacher and Massachusetts legislator. She earned a B.A. in English from Bridgewater State University in 1969 and taught in the East Bridgewater and Whitman- Hanson School Districts for a total of 13 years. While representing the towns of Abington, East Bridgewater and Whitman in the House of Representatives from 1997-2007, Teahan served on the Committees on Public Health, State Administration, and Elder Affairs, as well as many special commissions and subcommittees. Last year, she published a children’s book, The Cookie Loved ‘Round the World, the history of the Toll House chocolate chip cookie and its invention in Whitman.
Ms. Teahan moved to Harwich Port in 2008. She remains active in politics as a volunteer and mentor for other candidates. When asked about her relationship with water Kathy responded, “I conserve and protect water every day! In this world where more than 2.1 billion people (one fourth of all humans) do not have access to clean water, I am blessed to have clean drinking water at my fingertips any time of the day…I am blessed to live a five minute walk from the Atlantic Ocean where I can dip my toes any time of the day.” Recently, Kathy was appointed to the Harwich Cultural Council. Monthly, she helps at the Faith Family Food Kitchen in Hyannis and participates in social justice causes with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston. She is very happy to have four granddaughters and one great-grandson. Kathy’s goal is to leave a more peaceful and just world for all children.
LISA SIMUNDSON
Lisa Simundson has been writing about travel for 25 years, covering everything from the launch of tourism marketing in Guatemala to the launch of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando. A Miami native, she has never lived more than a few miles from the ocean (and never will). Lisa has traversed the entire Florida peninsula, writing about beaches as well as the many inland waterways crossing the state. She has stood on the black volcanic sands of Pacific Costa Rica and sailed across breathtaking Lake Ometepe in Nicaragua. Moving to Cape Cod in 2010, Lisa’s first stop was the ocean. Then she felt at home.
